THE STORY OF MANGIA APIZZA
In 1879, Guiseppe Galluzzi and Gianni Mongillo arrived in New Haven, CT. fresh off the boat from Italy.
Galluzzi was a baker and had some special dough he had brought from Italy in his pocket, while Mongillo was a farmer and he had a jar of homemade tomato sauce that he had brought from his farm in Italy.
The two immigrants bumped into each other on Wooster Street and fell into a brick oven. The dough and the tomato sauce merged in the fire of the oven and produced the first Apizza in North America.
It was so tasty that in unison the both said, "MANGIA" and MANGIA APIZZA was born!
And so the two started a Pizza revolution in New Haven. And ever since that day so long ago, their great, great grandsons, Steve Galluzzi and John Mongillo have been trying to maintain their tradition of making great Apizza and Italian food.
